After voicing the iconic villain Darth Vader for over 40 years, 91-year-old actor James Earl Jones has “signed off” on using his archival voice recordings to keep Vader alive. Even though Star Wars fans are accustomed to seeing the digitally de-aged characters but now it’s time for some of the voices of legacy actors to be digitally recreated with A.I.

Darth Vader had a heft role in Disney +’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series and fans noticed the voice sounded different in the series. During that time, Lucasfilm was using a Ukraine-based company called Respeecher to reconstruct Vader’s part. Even though the ongoing war severely made matters worse when it came to Obi-Wan Kenobi, their synthetic-speech artists still worked on Vader’s voice and pushed through to finish the project.

Moving forward for Lucasfilms will be different and an adventure for all of the fans as they navigate their access to A.I. technology.
