Today is THE FIRST DAY OF FALL! Cooler temperatures and rain are upon us so it’s time to make sure your vehicle is ready for fall too! Here are eight ways to make sure your car is ready for the season change:

  1. Wax your car – waxing your car helps protect it from the elements, whether its rain, hail, frost, snow, or things as simple as debris on the roadway.
  2. Windshield wipers – These should be checked seasonally anyhow but you should check your wipers to make sure they don’t need replaced so you can efficiently get rain off of your windshield.
  3. Test your heater – Before the temperature gets too cold you should check to make sure that your A/C and heater are both working properly.
  4. Replenish Fluids – If you know how to do it yourself, awesome, otherwise it’s not a bad idea to take your car into a professional and get your fluid levels checked, fluids like: antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, oil (change it if needed), etc..
  5. Tires – Check the air in your tires, as temperature changes, the PSI in your tires can too. While you’re checking the air, take a look at the tread to see if the tire itself needs replaced.
  6. Brakes – CHECK YOUR BRAKES because you can’t stop if you can’t stop.
  7. Headlights – It’s never a bad idea to make sure your ability to see is working properly. Take a walk around your vehicle to ensure that your regular lights, back up lights, fog lights, and brights all work.
  8. Equipment – here’s a list of equipment that is a good idea to keep in your car year round:
    1. Ice scraper
    2. First Aide Kit
    3. Spare tire and equipment to change one
    4. Gloves, blanket, spare change of clothes (don’t forget the socks)
    5. Small shovel

Remember that defensive driving is a must and that getting your car checked by a professional is never a bad idea. Stay safe everyone!!!
